About An Vanderlinden

Key element in the work of An Vanderlinden is coal, the black and robust substance derived from earth, in honour of her heritage and many generations around the world. The choice to work with coal as the raw artistic material for her monumental paintings, was made when the artist discovered its pure beauty. Through artistic experiments she developed various textures to work with that revealed a unique source of suble plays of light. It marked the beginning of an entirely new evolution in her oeuvre in which the boundary between figuration and abstraction blur and past and future converge.
