Bruno V. Roels

About Bruno V. Roels

Bruno V. Roels is a Belgian photographer who masters the craft of photographic development, yet his work extends beyond the boundaries of photography through his subsequent manipulation of the prints. Roels consistently starts from analog black-and-white photography and always develops his images himself in the darkroom. Nature invariably returns as a subject in his photographs, as he deliberately chooses recognizable, universal elements. As an artist, he works from a sense of wonder and a curiosity for unknown worlds that he already nurtured as a child, culminating in the final presentation of his work through a layered visual language that addresses melancholy, colonial history, and inequality.

Born in 1976.
