About Christiane Löhr
In the work of contemporary artist Christiane Löhr, the connection with nature is immediately striking. Her artworks originate in nature during long walks, where she collects all kinds of organic materials (such as plant seeds, blades of grass, and horsehair) that later emerge in refined and small sculptural works. Unlike other artists, she makes a radical choice for small formats, in which she still manages to portray the grandeur of nature: despite the transience inherent in the material from which the sculptures are made, their strength and stability are also striking—they are almost architectural works. It is no coincidence that Löhr, who is herself an archaeologist and Egyptologist by training, draws inspiration from sacred architecture, such as Gothic cathedrals and their slender, sublime structures.Born in 1965.
