Germaine Richier
About Germaine Richier
Germaine Richier was undoubtedly France's most important sculptor of the twentieth century.
During her lifetime, she had no real difficulty in making a name for herself, despite being a woman artist practising sculpture. Although not spectacular, her fame initially grew from her training in Bourdelle's studio until the Second World War.
La Vierge Folle (The Mad Mad Virgin), despite her apparently modest appearance, bears witness to her admiration for the work of Rodin, who inspired many of her sculptures.
Born in 1902, passed away in 1959.
