About Hanns Kunitzberger
The Austrian artist Hanns Kunitzberger studied Stage Design and Scenography at the University of Salzburg and subsequently obtained a degree in Theatre and Film Directing, but dedicated himself entirely to painting in the 1980s. In his paintings, the image is completely stripped of form, and the focus lies entirely on color: the smoky color planes, which reveal themselves to the viewer without clear boundaries or edges, as if they were veils, are very recognizable. The viewer is invited to come closer and discover the texture of the work within the color continuum. The technique Kunitzberger employs involves applying various layers of pigmented oil glaze on top of one another, in a slow, lengthy, and almost contemplative process that is reflected in the viewer's approach to the work.Born in 1955.
