About Marcel-Henri Verdren
Marcel-Henri Verdren is a Belgian geometric-abstract painter and graphic artist. He was born in Brussels but moved to Ostend when he was a child. Verdren studied at the Academies of Ostend and Ghent. In the 1950s he worked in the Parisian art studio Atelier 17, where experimental workshops for the graphic arts were organized.
Verdren returned to Ostend (Belgium) in the 1960s, where he joined the Geoform group and befriended Jo Delahaut and Gilbert Decock.
He was known for his constructivist, non-figurative paintings, and liked to work with the colours black and white. Marcel Verdren won several prizes, including the Europa Prize for Painting of the City of Ostend (in 1964, 1966 and 1969) and the Young Belgian Painters Award (in 1962 and 1964) in Brussels.
Born in Vorst in 1933, passed away in 1976.
