Pascal Bernier
° 1960, Brussels
Pascal Bernier takes objects of pleasure and consumption and combines them with depictions of personal waste. The realism of the objects combined with the velvety texture of the paint create a strange, elusive image.
Pelicans, sharks and swans surrounded by garlands of rubbish, these smiling creatures haunt our guilty consciences as polluting humans. But the artist is careful not to play the sanctimonious role; his message is above all visual, and that's the way it should be. "I like the contrasts that arise when you talk about complex things using very simple means. What interested me was showing an image of nature as it passes through the hands of man."
