Walker Evans

About Walker Evans

Walker Evans was an American photographer and photojournalist whose oeuvre became an encyclopedic visual catalogue of modern America in the making. In a simple yet elegant style he documented the daily life throughout the American continent from the late 1920's until the early 1970's. The Great Depression during the mid 1930's became a period of remarkable productivity and accomplishment for Evans, who left us an archive of inestimable value with portraits of common people and pictures that documented the traditions in rural America of which many entered the public's collective consciousness. Alongside this realism, the oeuvre of Evans is also known for its highly aesthetic approach, of which the poetic pictures of ordinary objects are an example.

Born in 1903, passed away in 1975.
