About the exhibition in Ghent
The exhibition State of Mind in Ghent showcases the work of Belgian artist Denmark, who has spent the past 50 years transforming vast amounts of printed paper into art.
How many newspapers and magazines are discarded each day? How many unread literary treasures sit untouched on bookshelves? How many old exams and assignments gather dust in school attics?
Through cutting, pressing, stacking, and folding, Denmark makes paper the core element of his art. In an era overwhelmed by information and ‘fake news,’ his work offers a moment of reflection. He systematically silences and ‘gags’ books, newspapers, and magazines, stripping them of their original content. His pieces become monuments to our information culture—frozen in silence.
Denmark’s work has been exhibited in numerous national and international galleries and museums.
