Ado Hamelryck
About Ado Hamelryck
Ado Hamelryck dedicated his artistic career to a lifelong quest for the essence of black. The choice to only work with a specific colour might seem rigid, but permitted him to create a unique artistic signature. Through using black paint, ink or other materials by performing repetitive and rhythmic actions, that culminated in a pure visual language. Ado Hamelryck studied at the Academy for Fine Arts in Brussels and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp, after which he permanently moved to Genk. While working on his own oeuvre, he dedicated himself to educating artists as well as a teacher in drawing.
Born in Halle in 1941, passed away in 2024.
